Do you want to know more about the word CHIRIGOTA?
A chirigota is a musical and theatrical group typical of the Carnival of Cádiz, Spain. It consists of a group of performers who sing humorous songs with irony and social criticism. The lyrics often address current events, politics, or popular customs in a satirical and entertaining way.
Chirigotas compete in the Official Contest of Carnival Groups (COAC), held at the Gran Teatro Falla in Cádiz. They differ from other carnival styles like comparsas (which are more serious and poetic) or coros (which have more elaborate music and use «bateas,» or carnival floats).
Chirigota performers wear colorful costumes that match the theme of their songs and accompany their performances with simple instruments such as guitars, bass drums, and small carnival whistles (pitos de carnaval).
